[What happened with the basic "Hello?" Dang it Lillian, you're throwing off he groove! He had practiced what he was going to say, but you didn't even say your predicted first line. How hard was it to answer the phone with a basic "Hello?" Someone help him!

Derek clears his throat.]

Well, hello to you too. Actually, many people use the phone for phone calls. It makes communication more personable. You can loose so much in a simple text really...

[Focus Derek, you have to ask her out!]

So... uh... how are you doing?

Uh huh. [She still sounds so amused.] Many people, yes. Many old people. And telemarketers.

[Finally she just laughs.]

Sorry, sorry, I'm just teasin' ya. I'm pretty good. Avoidin' writin' a paper. What's up?

Oh well... [and then all the mental prep in Derek's brain disappears and he's got nothing. Shit.]

Uh... um... I was thinking about you... well, I mean, not YOU but... well, yes you but more specifically when I talked to you last month that one night and how I really enjoyed it and I was hoping... well more of wondering if you enjoyed it to?

[The last part comes out a bit weak and Derek has started hitting his forehead with the palm of his hand. Good grief he could form complete sentences around her last month? What the hell Derek!]

[It's about halfway through his ramble that Lillian figures out what's going on here, and it takes all of her willpower not to giggle into her phone at him. Oh this poor boy.]

[She does sound like there's laughter in her voice when she answers though.]

Yeah, sure. It was nice talkin' to ya.

[And now she was probably going to torture him by forcing him to actually say what he wanted...]

[So she enjoyed the conversation! That's good. Oh dear god it's now or never!]

Well, you see, since we both seemed to enjoy each others company so much I figured we could do that again sometime. Like you know, possibly... [Derek takes a breath.] Lillian, would you like to out go out sometime a date? Perhaps this Friday?

[Derek instantly stops breathing. He actually got the bloody question out!]

[Please say yes, please say yes!]

[She definitely covered her mouth with her hand to keep from laughing as he gathered up the courage to ask that.]

Hmmmmmm.

[She did stretch out the thoughtful noise she made way longer than necessary though.]

Yeah, sure, that sounds cool. Where we goin'?

[She actually said 'yes'... OH MY GOD SHE SAID YES!]

[Derek tries his best to collect his thoughts to properly answer he question.]

Uh... I-I was th-thinking ice skating and then perhaps dinner. Is there a particular cuisine you like?

Oh sure. Can't promise I won't fall on my ass a few times, but that sounds fun! [She chuckles.] My sister got all the coordination in our family.

And eh. [He could probably hear her shrug.]

Anything that's not Indian. Just not really a curry fan.

[Derek chuckles.]

I'll try my best to catch you then. Though I might just fall down with you.

[Derek pauses for a second to think and then nods.]

Not Indian and no curry. Got it. I'll think of something. It'll be a surprise OK? Is 6:30 a good time to pick you up? Where do you live?

[Yes, and hour and a half should be enough time for him to get home, shower, change, pick of flowers, and drive over to her place without looking completely winded.]

Hah, that's almost romantic.

[Another teasing laugh.]

Yeah, that's fine. Don't have classes after two that day, so just text me before you come over. And hey, I love surprises.

[And she texts him an address for her apartment near the school.]

[Derek's face grows warm at Lillian's comment. She totally sees right through his attempt at flirting. Good grief is he going to be able to handle her?]

[Derek sees that he got her text and looks at the address.]

Oh, so you live near campus eh? I'm familiar with that area! And I'll text you before I come pick you up. See you Friday and good luck with that paper.
